Hypothesis
we think that hydroelectricity is helpful for our environment because it produces energy without polluting the air and is renewable .And that was our hypothesis before our research.
Research
We did research on How does hydroelectric work ,How does hydroelectric power help our environment? , the Advantages and Disadvantages of hydroelectric and facts about hydroelectric
How does hydroelectric work: Hydroelectricity works by using the force of falling or flowing water to spin turbines connected to generators, converting the water’s kinetic energy into mechanical energy, and then into electrical energy that’s sent to the grid.
How does hydroelectric power help our environment?: Hydroelectricity helps the environment by, primarily generating power with no air pollution and ultra-low greenhouse gas [GHG] emissions, replacing dirtier fossil fuels, improving air quality, and offering grid stability for other renewables. While dams have localized impacts, they provide clean, renewable energy, reduce reliance on coal and gas, and offer benefits like flood control and water management.
Facts 1- The first hydroelectricity power plant was made in 1879. In 2006, 2- hydroelectricity power was 20% of the energy around the world. 3-The largest hydropower station in the whole world is the Three Gorges Dam in China. 4-Norway, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Paraguay, Venezuela, Brazil and Switzerland produce the majority of their energy through hydroelectricity.
Advantages: We need hydroelectricity because it's a clean, renewable, and highly efficient power source that provides reliable baseload electricity, grid stability, and storage, helping reduce fossil fuel reliance and fight climate change while also offering benefits like flood control, irrigation, and water supply.
Disadvantage: Five major disadvantages of hydropower are significant environmental disruption (habitat loss, fish migration blockage, altered water flow/quality), high upfront construction costs, reliance on specific geography and water availability (making sites limited and vulnerable to drought), displacement of communities, and potential for methane/CO2 emissions from decaying reservoir vegetation. How much energy does hydroelectricity produce?
Hydroelectricity produces a massive amount of energy daily, supplying about 15% of the world’s electricity,or roughly 11,500 terawatt- hours annually meaning tens of trillions of watt-hours every single day, though the exact amount varies with rainfall and demand,low-carbon power source for grids world wide.Globally,it’s over 4,210 TWh in 2023,with Canada alone generating over 385 TWh yearly.
Variables
if we use dams there are some disadvantages like it can change the water's natural temperature and if were using a water wheel there are some disadvantages like slow rotational water speed which makes electricity generation more difficult.
Procedure
Our project is about how Hydroelectricity works
So what we are doing we have a 3D model of the inside of a hydroelectricity dam that works and we will be explan how it work
Observations
We observed that water can produces energy and in different ways like a dam or a water wheel we also observed that hydro power can kill any animal that lives there or swims there by them getting stuck in the turbines.
Analysis
hydroelectricity is a way to produce electricity by using water it can be produced by either a dam or a water wheel the steps of how it works is by using falling or flowing water which spins turbines connected to generators which turn the waters kinetic energy into electrical energy that powers our homes and schools.
Conclusion
In this research we discover how hydroelectricity works why it is important that we keep this renewable energy source alive and how it is good for our environment.
The most challenging part? The most challenging part was recreating how it works because it would be hard to make the actual turbines spin and produce energy .however I over came that part because I found an easy way to produce it.
What was the most creativity required in this project and the best part of it ? The part that needed the most creativity was most of the project because it needed to have enough information in a form of a way to recreate how it works and how it will look from the 3D model.
Application
hydroelectric power help our environment:
Hydroelectricity helps the environment by, primarily generating power with no air pollution and ultra-low greenhouse gas [GHG] emissions, replacing dirtier fossil fuels, improving air quality, and offering grid stability for other renewables. While dams have localized impacts, they provide clean, renewable energy, reduce reliance on coal and gas, and offer benefits like flood control and water management.
Sources Of Error
The source of error of hydroelectricity is environmental and social problems which are interconnected issues arising from human activity that effects the environmental damage and harm to our society. Another source of error from hydroelectricity is the changes of natural water temperature which happens during the summer and during the winter. Also there is the source of error which when it is winter the water might freeze and the turbines which need to be used to spin water and produce energy. Blocking fish migration is made when a dam is built where fish live and when they need to migrate in spring and fall because of harsh weather conditions. Destroys aquatic habitats by transforming fast flowing ecosystems into stagnant ,and disrupting natural sediment transport.
