Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that the energy drink is going to be the most amount of damage to the teeth because it has a high caffeine which can cause fast heartbeat, headaches, etc. It also has lots of sugar that can give you cavities and make you gain weight. I think that the water is going to be the least amount of damage to the teeth because we drink water everyday and we never have any cavities or other teeth problems with it.

Research

Some questions I can research about is

1. How do each different drink (milk\,water\,energy drink\,soda\, juice) affect our body?

2. Why some drinks are more healthier than others?

3. How different these drinks affect our everyday choices on our health?

Variables

Manipulated variable: Type of drinks used (cola, juice, sport drink, milk, and water).

Responding variable: Amount of damage to eggshells ( colour change, softness, surface damage)

Controlled variable: Things kept the same for a fair test Same size eggshells Same amount of liquid in cups Same soaking time Same room temperature Same type of container Same room temperature

Procedure

  1. get clean dry eggshells
  2. place eggshells in cup
  3. pour drinks in cup
  4. leave cups at room temperature
  5. Observe eggshells
  6. After a week remove eggshells and record change
  7. Compare results and see which one gave the most and least damage.
  8. Where: home when: ok very a week

Observations

Throughout the 3 trials the milk and water had no damage or softness to the egg and were perfectly healthy and had no signs of cavities and tooth decay. One the other hand cola juice and energy drink had the most damage. Juice didn't have much just some colour change . Cola turned brown with some spots darker than the others. Energy drink had the most damage to it by having some skin on the egg and some colour change with a tiny bit of softness.

Analysis

As I was doing the 3 trials as analysis I would say that water and milk are the safest for the teeth and would not show any signs of cavities or teeth decay .This means that milk and water had the best result. For juice I used guava juice and the egg was pink but it wasn't that much of pink colour. which really means that juice would still give you teeth damage. Cola and energy drink looking at both of these drinks were pretty equally damaged both with colour change. Pepsi has a dark brown colour but energy drink had a light brown colour . None of these had any damage to how hard the egg was the egg all were still hard.

Conclusion

In conclusion Pepsi had the worst results. Pepsi had this brown tinted colour on the egg showing the sugar and acid going on the egg . this shows that tooth enamel will also be easily be get cavities and affect the enamel to the teeth. The drink with the less amount of damage is water .Water had no colour effect on the teeth meaning that it will also don't have any cavities or tooth decay or destroy the protective enamel

Application

this experiment shows how some drinks can do more damage than others. In this soda and energy drink gave the egg stains but water and milk cause no damage. This is important in life since this experiment can help people make healthier drink choices and don't get cavities, or tooth decay . this will help people not pick sugary and acidic drinks.

Sources Of Error

some sources of error can be

  1. the amount of drink in each cup could be more or lesser than others .
  2. the temperature has to be the same which if it changed a bit and you didn't notice it could put a impact on the drink.
  3. some eggs can also be soaked a tiny bit longer than others like being taken out for observations

I learned my information from websites that I trust like Colgate and Healthline.

  1. soda the person who wrote about this is Colgate Palmolive company. the source of this is Colgate toothpaste toothbrush and oral resources. what I learned was that soda isn't great for your teeth and can damage your enamel of your teeth making it unsafe to drink everyday.
