Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that Gatorade would have the highest electrolyte content becuase it is the most famous sports drinks.
I also think that i can create my own, homemade electrolyte drink drink that works the same as store bought electrolyte drinks.
My last hypothesis is that the drink with the least electrolytes will have the highest resistence.
Research
I used the information from the following websites:
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/search?q=electroltes,etc
Electrolytes are chemicals that conduct electricity when dissolved in water. They regulate nerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure, and help rebuild damaged tissue. The electrolytes in human bodies include: sodium, potassium, calcium, bicarbonate, magnesium, and chloride.
Variables
Independant Variables: (will change)
Different types of drinks/solutions.
Dependant Variables: (change i will measure)
Current through the solution.
Resistance through the solution.
Controlled Variables: ( will not change)
Temperature of the solution.
Length of the electrode dipped into the solution.
Procedure
1. I poured 200 mL of each drink into small beakers.
2. I connected the 2 copper wires to both ends of the alligator clips on the multimeter.
3. Then i attached a piece of the straw in the middle so that it connects the copper wires together.
4. I then dipped 2 cm of the straw into each solution and recorded the amount of electrolytes.
5. I did this 3 times for each solution to find out the electrolytes, current, and resistence.
6. I entered my data in a table and compared it to my hypothesis.
Observations
I obsereved that every time i used the multimeter on the energy drinks, the numbers on the multimeter change and shows if it has more electrolytes or less.
Analysis
Drink | Current | Resistence |
Water | 6th | 1st |
juice | 3rd | 2nd |
gatorade | 5th | 3th |
vit water | 4th | 5th |
redbull | 2nd | 4th |
homemade | 1st | 6th |
My results show that homemade sports drink has the highest electrolytes. I also learned that the drink that has the highest resistence let the lowest amount of current pass through it.
Conclusion
Through my experiment i found that gatorade didnt have the highest electrolytes, but instead that my homemade electrolyte solution had the most electrolytes.
I also found that my hypothesis about resistence was true and that the solution which has the lowest electrolytes gives the highest resistence to the current.
Application
My project can help people by showing if lots of electrolytes is good for your health or if its bad. I can also help by showing how to make a healthier homemade sports drinks.
Sources Of Error
The errors that can happen is that if my multimeter was low battery than i wouldnt be able to measure it properly and if i put the wrong drink in the wrong spot and have to change my data and more.
