Problem
There is a huge issue going on in this world. Even as we speak. Cigarettes and vapes have caused many problems for us humans and our bodies. Worldwide there are over 500,000 deaths caused by smoking cigarettes alone, and if you ask me half of a million deaths by something that we individuals can stop is not right and should be stopped. Cigarettes have killed more people than drinking alcohol. Something that makes smoking a cigarette very dangerous is the fact that it has around 7,000 chemicals in it. Consuming all 7,000 chemicals can be hazardous to us humans. Tobacco contains many different dangerous chemicals as well such as Formaldehyde, Carbon monoxide, Nicotine, and many thousands more chemicals. Consuming all those chemicals is bad but also all those chemicals being consumed all together is very dangerous. For a man who smoke cigarettes live up to 70 years old on average and on average female smokers live up to around 75 years old. These numbers are if you're lucky enough to wait till that. Smoking a cigarette causes many health issues to the human body that can cause many people to sadly loss their lives. Smoking causes bad health issues mostly toward the heart, blood vessels, and the lungs. To be detailed some health issues smoking can cause are vision loss, hearing loss, stroke, harder to breathe, diabetes, lung disease, lung cancer, heart attack, and many sickness to the heart like heart disease, heart cancer, and more. Why it is so hard for people to stop smoking because it is very addicting. One-third of heart attacks are from smoking. Vapes are also just as bad as cigarettes. vape contains fewer chemicals than cigarettes because a vape has 2,000 chemicals in it and a cigarette has 7,000. 2000 is still a lot of amount of chemicals for the body. By smoking and vaping all our organs are impacted a lot. Vapes are safer than cigarettes but still not good at all. Even though vapes are safer vapes are still addicting as much as a cigarette would be causing it to be hard for people to stop it. Vapes caused way fewer deaths having around 70 deaths and cigarettes half a million. Both vapes and cigarettes are very bad and are a huge problem that should be stopped.
Method
First, I will figure out my topic and understand the problem it causes to this world
My topic is vape vs cigarette. The problem my topic faces is all the deaths it causes. Worldwide half a million people have died from smoking a cigarette. The impact it has on the human body is hazardous. It causes lung cancer, heart failure, stroke, diabetes, and many more horrible stuff to the body.
Then, I will proceed to do my research question
. Which one is more harmful to the human body, a cigarette or a vape? . Why is it very hard to quit smoking and vaping? .Why and how is smoking a cigarette and inhaling a vape addicting
After, I will start finishing my project by doing my conclusion
Research
Which one is more harmful to the human body, a cigarette or a vape?
Both smoking a cigarette and inhaling a vape are very dangerous to us humans, but a cigarette is more harmful to the body than inhaling a vape. There are many reasons why this is true. One reason is that a cigarette contains way more chemicals than a vape. A cigarette contains around 7,000 chemicals, and a vape contains around 2,000. Another reason is that smoking a cigarette has caused 500,000 deaths. Half a million deaths just by smoking a cigarette. And inhaling a vape caused around 70 deaths. Another reason is that a vape doesn’t contain the same dangerous chemicals a cigarette does. For example, a cigarette contains tar and carbon monoxide. These are the two big chemicals that cause lung issues like lung cancer, lung disease, and more lung problems. These are the two most harmful chemicals in tobacco. Also, smoking a cigarette causes more health problems to the body than a vape does.
Why is it very hard to quit smoking and vaping?
There are many reasons why and how quitting smoking and vaping is very challenging, but the main reason is that your body would feel bad. Let me explain: by vaping many times, the chemical nicotine will make your body feel good, and your body will be used to it. For example, when you smoke a cigarette, the nicotine in it will release neurotransmitters/dopamine to the brain, and that will make your body and behavior have no mood swings. The dopamine in your brain causes the body to feel good. And stopping it right away would be hard because your body won't feel the good feeling nicotine gives to your body. And this is the same for vaping the nicotine will help your mood. It's like stopping medicine, your doctor tells you not to stop right away if you take two after each meal, and if you want to stop taking the drug, your doctor would tell you first take two after each meal but skip some after a meal, then you should take one after the meal, then eventually you will stop taking medicine but slow by slow because if you just stop taking it, your body would react badly. This is why it's complicated to quit right away for many people.
Why and how is smoking a cigarette and inhaling a vape addicting?
Inhaling a vape and smoking a cigarette can be very addicting to many people. Kids between 15-25 are most likely to use a vape and be addicted because of its flavors. The flavor in the vapes is a part of the addiction many kids have. There are many different flavors a vape has. Most flavors in a vape are fruit flavors like banana, apple, mango, and watermelon, and their most popular is strawberry. There are also beverage flavors like Coca-Cola, coffee, lemonade, and more. In vapes, there can be bad flavors like menthol and even tobacco flavor. Those are just some things people think of as why vaping is addicting, but the main reason is because of a chemical in the vape called nicotine, and after vaping many times, your body gets used to it. It causes you to feel good. Smoking a cigarette is the same; it has a chemical called nicotine, the same as the vape, and that chemical is what makes these very addicting. This chemical makes your body's behavior good by making you happy most of the time. In 2019, in the USA, 53.1% of vapers past 30 days of vaping said they were addicted to e-cigarettes, and in Canada, it is 48.3%.
Data
Percentage of adults aged 18 and over who currently use e-cigarettes, by age group and sex: United States, 2021.
- Smoking a cigarette has caused 500,000 deaths.
- A cigarette contains around 7,000 chemicals A vape contains around 2,000 chemicals
- Vaping has caused around 70 deaths worldwide
- 48.3% of Canadians say they feel addicted to vaping
- 53.1% of Americans say they feel addicted to vaping
- 1/3 of heart attacks are from smoking a cigarette
- On average, male smokers live up to approximately 70 years old
- On average, female smokers live up to approximately 75 years old
- The amount of nicotine in 1 vape can be the amount of nicotine in 50 cigarettes
- The CDC has estimated that male smokers lose an average of 13.2 years of life
- The CDC has estimated that female smokers lose on average 14.5 years of life
- Over 50% of vapers in 2019 said they received their vape from a friend
Conclusion
In conclusion, smoking and vaping are extremely harmful/ very hazardous and should be stopped. In some countries, measures have been taken to reduce tobacco use. For example, Singapore prohibits smoking cigarettes in most areas unless one is inside designated smoking boxes. This rule aims to decrease the number of smokers worldwide. Very hazardous and should be stopped. In some countries, they have reduced the amount of tobacco for example, Singapore doesn't allow smoking a cigarette in areas unless you are in a box. That is a rule to decrease the amount of smokers in the world. Other places in this world should be like that. On a final note, we individuals need to stop this because all the harm is done to the body.
