Problem

What is cardiac arrest and how can it be prevented? The purpose of this project is to research cardiac arrest, understand its causes, and learn ways to prevent it in order to promote heart health and save lives.

Method

To start my research on cardiac arrest, We looked up information on trusted websites to learn the basic facts. We wanted to understand what cardiac arrest is, what causes it, and how people can prevent it. I made sure the websites were reliable and explained things clearly so I wouldn’t get confused. Then, I decided to learn even more by talking to cardiologists. I asked them questions about cardiac arrest and how doctors help people during emergencies. They explained what really happens in hospitals, which made the topic much easier for me to understand. In the end, I put all the information together into paragraphs to answer my research question. I read over my work to make sure it sounded clear and made sense. Using both websites and talking to cardiologists helped me learn a lot and complete my project with confidence.

Research

To start our project, we wanted to answer two main questions: what is cardiac arrest and how can it be prevented? We added a lot of background research to understand how the heart works and what causes it to suddenly stop beating. To make sure our facts were correct, we only used reliable health websites and sources. We spent a lot of time reading through these sources and taking careful notes so we could gather the most accurate information possible for our project. Through our research, we learned that cardiac arrest is an electrical problem in the heart that causes it to stop pumping blood to the rest of the body. We found out that this is different from a heart attack, which is more like a plumbing problem with the heart's blood flow. We also researched the best ways to prevent cardiac arrest from happening. We learned that healthy lifestyle choices, like eating nutritious food and staying active, are very important for keeping the heart strong. We also discovered that knowing how to use an AED and doing CPR are vital emergency steps that can help save lives. By using both websites and talking to cardiologists as primary resources, we were able to find the best answers to our research questions.

Data

In our project we discovered the answer to our guiding question wich was: What is cardiac arrest? What causes it and how can it be prevented? We found out that cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating. In this time the patient will lose consciousness and will stop breathing. This can be caused by coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathy. Coronary artery disease is a heart problem that happens when the arteries clog up with fatty plaque. When this happens blood and oxygen cant reach the heart and body resulting in a cardiac arrest. Cardiomyopathy is completely different. It is a disease that makes the heart muscle weak or stiff. When this happens the heart can’t pump enough blood to the rest of the body. This causes the heart to struggle and eventually a cardiac arrest. To prevent cardiac arrest from happening before you have it can be displayed through many examples such as: eating healthy food this helps by lowering your cholesterol levels and managing your blood pressure. Another option would be exercising this helps reduce the chance of coronary artery disease and diabetes.when your body is balanced and your heart doesn’t have to work too hard the chance of a cardiac arrest is much lower.

Conclusion

  • Our conclusion proves that even though cardiac arrest is a very serious medical emergency, it is something we can understand and prepare for. It proves that fast action saves lives, because using CPR and an AED machine can double or even triple a person's chance of surviving. Finally, it proves that many heart problems can be prevented by making healthy choices like eating good food and staying active starting at a young age.

Acknowledgement

We would like to express my sincere gratitude . To my teacher, Ms.Khan, for helping us learn how to do this research and for all of their support in class. I am also very thankful for the resources we used for this study, especially the cardiologists I contacted. They were incredibly kind to share their professional knowledge with me and answer all of my questions, which gave me a much better understanding of this topic. We also appreciate the helpful websites we found, like Hopkins medicene which provided great information. Finally, I really appreciate the wonderful tips and encouragement from Ms. Khan because they were a huge part of why we were able to finish this project
