Problem
well im doing a research project, so i dont have a problem and never have had a problem. I only had trouble finding the Concord's research scince its a old plane.
Method
I chose my question: Which plane tail has the best rudder for turning at cruise? Then I explained what a tail and rudder is then i sarted my research. Then an analysis after a conclusion
Research
The 747 has a big, wide tail, and the vertical stabilizer stands straight up to help the plane stay balanced and fly straight. The smaller wings on the back are the horizontal stabilizers, which control the pitch of the aircraft. These parts work together to keep the 747 stable and allow it to turn smoothly even when carrying heavy loads. The 747 also has a split rudder, which helps it stay controllable if one engine fails. The 747 is efficient for its size, but it burns more fuel per seat compared to newer aircraft. It also has a strong safety record, with reliable handling and proven performance over many decades of service.
The Airbus A380 has a very large and wide tail, even bigger than the 747’s, because it’s the biggest passenger plane in the world and needs a huge vertical stabilizer to stay stable in the air. Its tail is around 24 meters tall, and the rudder is also very large, which gives it strong control and smooth turning at cruise. The A380 is also more economical because it burns less fuel per seat compared to the 747, making it more efficient for airlines on long flights. It’s known for having an excellent safety record, with advanced systems that help the aircraft stay stable even in rough conditions. The A380’s size and modern design also give it very reliable handling during all phases of flight. The Concorde, a supersonic airliner that could fly at supersonic speeds, way faster than the other 2, had a special tail with a smaller vertical stabilizer. Its tail helped it stay stable at very high speeds, which is different from the 747 and A380 that fly slower over long distances, es so I didn't choose this for my hypothesis. The concordes top speed Machach 2.04 or 2179 kph The Concorde was not economical as it was Supersonic and any Turn was costly because it Creates huge drag and heat, causing damage.ThConcordede also did not rely on the rudder to turn; it used elevons ( elevons are the elevators and ailerons on a supersonic jet). At Mach 2, Concorde’s rudder wasn’t very effective because shockwaves and compressed air made it hard to use without adding drag. The delta‑wing design already provided strong natural stability, so the aircraft didn’t need a large rudder. Concorde’s rudder was split into two smaller sections to reduce stress, which limited how much it could move. At cruise, the plane was so stable that turns were made by banking with the wings, and the rudder was used only for small corrections or low‑speed situations.
Data
After analysis the a380 has the best rudder because it is the biggest and since it is the biggest it is the strongest. Also the 747 once had rudder failure on Northwest flight 85 which makes me choose the a380. The concordes tail is Super small And good for flying supersonic Speeds but it is not good for Rudder control and is expensive to operate.
Conclusion
The Airbus A380 has the best tail for rudder use at cruise because it is the biggest and strongest out of the 3, so the airflow as the rudder moves is better.I fail to reject my hypothesis because when I made it, I thought size would matter and I was correct
