Problem

People are emitting carbon dioxide into the air and people are not using renewable energy to clean air.

Method

first I did all my reaserch. then I started adding images, then I started filling in my catagoties.

my next step was printing everything

after that a gave every catagory a border, I got my trifold and started gluing on my stuff

I started working my diagram and hot glued stuff on the diagram

then a was finished

Research

The purpose of a wind turbine is to provide energy to a community and houses. The wind turbine is big to capture more wind, super tall to get stronger wind and fast to be more efficient.

In the nose of the wind turbine is a gear that turns the blades of the turbine to face the wind. A generator in the wind turbine is 50 feet and weighs 300 tons. 1 wind turbine can generate 21,6 kilowatt hours per day times 365 is 7819.2 kilowatt per year.

Benefits of wind energy is that it is clean, renewable, the wind costs 0 dollars to get, there is infinite air which means lots and lots of powered houses.

Wind turbines are giant, the body is taller than a 20 story building and the blades are as long as a football field. There are 2 types of wind turbines: an onshore wind turbine and an offshore wind turbine. Offshore wind turbines work the same as an onshore wind turbine but offshore wind turbines are on water.

Offshore wind turbines have a triangle base that is connected to poles and the poles are planted into the sea floor.

The wind turbine does not spin fast enough but with the generator (which is inside the wind turbine) it spins faster.

Using a wind turbine can provide electricity without polluting the air or burning fuel.

The country with the most wind turbines, most money( 17.9 trillion U.S money), largest wind farm(which is the Gansu Wind Farm), and most  powerful wind turbine in the world (which is a offshore wind turbine and called the MW Ming yang mySE 16-260) is CHINA, a hypothesis I have for China is it will be the fastest country to go all wind energy.

The different ways wind energy can affect us is where it can help avoid 336 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and slows the growth of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

THESIS

I think that wind turbines are the best type of energy source because it is a clean and renewable energy source that can lower the energy cost to produce. I think some point in time it will be the only energy source on the planet

What's next

I would know why more countries are not getting more wind turbines. Maybe it is that countries do not understand the full purpose of wind turbines and why they are so great. One more thing I would like to know is how come premiers want to lower the chances for climate change and carbon emissions and NOT put wind turbines.

Conclusion

My thesis was that I thought wind energy is the best energy source on the planet. Based on my research my thesis is correct. My demonstration shows how wind energy works to power a house and my research shows why it's better.

China is the perfect example of this because thay have the most polluted country and want to counter and replace it with clean air by using the most wind turbines and energy in the world.

We need to take care of our world and use clean and renewable energy.

SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES

Scientific Principal

Explain the principal: what is it?

How does this principal connect to your research/experiment?

Bernoulli's effect

The shape of a airplane wing and how wind flows though it

A wind turbine has the same wing shape as an airplane for it's blades so the wind goes through it easier. When its easier for the wind to push, it generates more wind energy.

The force of lift and drag

Drag is weight and lift is to oppose the weight, so it allows the plane or object to fly

When wind goes across the blades on one side of the pressure on one side of the blade goes down which creates lift and drag. The force of lift is stronger than the force of drag and this makes the rotor spin

Yaw

A function of a plane to make it move side to side

Small gear in a wind turbine to make it move left and right which can make it face the wind the gears are in the blades and in the casing.

Concepts

The bad things about a wind turbine are: it causes noise pollution(35-45 decibels) ,can kill animals, can catch fire. Those are

some of the basic problems. This is what I would do to solve these problems. For the killing animals one I would make the wind turbine softer or put a fence like product to stop the animals from coming close to the wind turbine. For the noise pollution one I would put heavy blackout curtains over the generator to stop the generating sound.and for the catching fire one I would try to put wind turbines in areas that do not catch fire like far away from a forest and away from downtown because when they have fireworks, since the wind turbine is so tall it could get hit by a spark and catch fire.

The different ways wind energy can affect us is where it can help avoid 336 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and slows the growth of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Fossil fuels are an energy source that burns natural gas, oil, and coal.

Fossil fuels pollute the air by putting nitrogen oxides into the air. Some of the side effects of this are acid rain and smog.

The 3 countries with the most fossil fuels are China with 4,126 million tonnes of oil production and the USA with 711.1 million tonnes of oil production and 934.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas production.

My thesis that wind turbines are better than fossil fuels is proved to be right because China has the most fossil fuels and they want to counter it with the most wind energy to clean up the polluted air and replace it with clean air.

Fossil fuels make carbon dioxide and put it in the air. Fossil fuels propel cars, power businesses, and keep lights on in houses. Using fossil fuels has an enormous toll on humans and the environment in areas from air to water pollution to global warming.

Fossil fuels started in the 1700s. In each year we use more fossil fuels and across each year we burn 4,000 times more fossil fuels. A hypothesis I have for fossil fuels is we will continue to use more fossil fuels every year.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This is the first type of wind turbine invented by James Blyth in his front yard in Marykirk, a town in scotland. It worked in a tripod stand with 33 foot windshaft, 4 arms of canvas sails and a burgin dynamo driven from the flywheel using a rope. The reason James Blyth built the wind turbine was that wind energy was cheaper than fossil fuels. It was built in July 1887.

The first fossil fuel was coal and was invented 1 million years ago so it basically was burning coal/fossils to make energy. The inventor of the fossil fuel is Nicolaus August Otto and they were used since the caveman.
