Problem

The world's stress level has grown, and people are more unhappy than ever, so we want to find out why. Is urbanization causing people to stress more, or are people stressed about other things in their lives?

Method

We researched online and went on Google Essays and searched for mental health essays in modern environments.

Research

Humans

stress

why do we have stress? it is because we have little control over a thing that is gonna somewhat threaten us. In urban areas, the environments are more complicated and hard to control, so that is why urbanization will produce stress.

Social distancing

what is social distancing? it is when we limit the closeness of people to avoid transmitting disease. Low or no social distance will create both physical and mental health problems.

The other side

Healthcare

through urbanization, people are getting better access to healthcare services and that makes up the positive side of the research, but through research, We know that the healthcare provided too heal mental problems cannot fully cover the negative side of mental health conditions that urbanization created.

Animals

Habitat lost

this is the most obvious and the most important Reason about animal health and mental health. Sadly, urbanization is still destroying the animal's habitat. they even cause extinction is some area sometimes! Ex: salt water crocodile in south east asia. Lost of habitats cause low in amount of animals and mental health problems.

Chaos environments in urban areas

If any animal went into the urban area, the chaos environments might scare the animals away and cause mental problems.

Data

We did some research and found that Finland is the happiest country in the world, as decided in 2024. Then we looked at the urban land to rural land and found that in 2024, 73% of Finland residents live in an urban area. As urbanization continued, the wolf population in Finland decreased by 7% from 2022 to 2023.

Conclusion

Humans

So through our research, We know that urbanization affects humans in both positive way and negative ways. Through urbanization, people are becoming more accessible to mental health help, but low social distancing and stress created by urbanization affect it in another way.

Animals

However, there are only negative effects for animals (especially wildlife, not domestic animals or pets) because of the chaos in cities and the loss of important habitats. The mental health of domestic animals is also decreasing because of animal abuse.

conclusion

In conclusion, We think We should let nature mix into urban environments while still having access to health care.
