Hypothesis

IF GENETICS WORK THE SAME WAY THEY DO FOR OTHER FEATURES THEN WE THINK  THAT THEIR FINGERPRINTS SHOULD BE SIMILAR BECAUSE GENETICS SHOULD BE WORKING FOR ALL DIFFERENT FEATURES INCLUDING  FINGERPRINTS

Research

Genetics

It's some specific characteristics that`s passed down to a child from their parents. Then that child's genetics gets passed down to child then  that child's genetics gets passed down to their child and it keep going on and on.

TYPES OF FINGERPRINTS

The different types of fingerprints are whorl, arch, tentarch, right loop, left loop and double loop.

Variables

Manipulated Variable: We are going to change the person we use for each test.

Responding Variable: We will measure it by finding out different kinds of fingerprints and seeing if there is any simalarity between the twins and siblings fingerprints.

Procedure

1.First we need to find participants like fraternal , identical and siblings

2.Then we need to get a inkpad and candy

3.we are gonna make papers for the participants to put their fingerprints on

4. After that we are going to tell them to put their fingerprints  on the right hand in the inkpad and put it on the piece of paper

5.we will  get the fingerprints from all the participant and give them  2 pieces of candy for participating

6 .we will compare them  and see if they are similar

Observations

Trial1 Maya Nanji and Kiyanna :

Analysis

We gathered the fingerprints of different siblings and twins and analyzed the patterns and trends that were consistent throughout. We realized that the fingerprints between siblings, identical twins and fraternal twins cannot be the same but can consist of very similar patterns. Most of the data gathered showed that the thumbs were similar sizes and the most common trend demonstrated was that most fingerprints were loops or whorls. The fraternal twins had more similarities in their prints than the identical twins .They had similar thumbs, middle fingers and pinkies,But the identical pairs had most common patterns and similar sizes in their thumbs and pinkies. The siblings had different patterns compared To the twins and mostly shared similarities in the sizes of their fingerprints.

Conclusion

Our question was how do genetics affect fingerprint similarity between siblings, identical twins and fraternal twins? The answer to our question is yes fingerprints between siblings, identical twins and fraternal twins can be similar but not the same. Our hypothesis  was correct because we said the fingerprints would be similar and they were.

Application

We are going to use our observattions and what we learned to make a proper conclusion

Sources Of Error

There was a error with the ink pad because when someone did their fingerprint it would smudge.
