Do you taste with your eyes?

This experement will involve differant blindfolded people tasting the same food, while changing it's appearance. I will be able to determine if the appearance of the food will effect its taste.

Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that the appearance of the food will in fact affect it's taste.

I think this because if someone were to give me a plate of blue and green  pasta and meatballs, i would most likely

stop eating it, even if it tastes good.

Variables

In this experiment i will be changing the appearance of the food.

One time i may give the food mashed and one time i could give the food in many differant colours,

but it will always be differant.

Procedure

I will invite five kids from age ten to twelve, to have lunch and be apart of my science experiment.

I will blindfold them and let them taste pasta and meatballs.

The pasta will be coloured blue while the meatballs will be coloured green.

After a few bites i will tell them to stop eating and let me know how it tastes.

They will take off their blindfold, and i will tell them they are welcome to continue to eat.

If they decide to stop eating, the experiment will be done, but if they continue i will ask how it tastes to see if they had other thoughts from the first time.

Observations

I will be observing the kids reactions in this experiment.

Once when they have their blindfold on, and once when it has been taken off.

Analysis

I will analyse both reactions of all four participants, before they see the foods appearance and after.

I will also document the difference.

Conclusion

I have learnt from this experiment that people really do judge the appearance of thir food before they eat it.

It is hard to eat food that looks gross or different.

Application

This experiment can help people understand the effect of the foods appearance on its taste and cells.

This will determine whether or not people judge the appearance of their food before they eat it.
