Does Your Zodiac Sign Affect the Decisions you Make?

We'll be surveying 3 people of each zodiac sign & see how they're supposed to react to different situations. We will tailor the answers for each situation to how the Internet says they would normally react, and we will also have other answers.
Arielle Oxford Zunaira Hassan
Grade 7

Hypothesis

Both partners had different hypotheses; Arielle's hypothesis was that all the information on the internet is false since she didn’t think constellations could actually change the way someone acts or responds to a certain situation. No one is exactly the same and if you have the same exact zodiac as someone, that someone isn’t going to act or be exactly like you. Zunaira's hypothesis was that the information about how each sign acts is accurate and will affect their approach towards situations, and people of the same sign would act similarly to each other (i.e. have the same reactions or decision-making system.)

Variables

Dependent variable: People's reactions to different situational questions, based on the person's zodiac sign

Independent variable: The person (because the person is being changed, the zodiac will also change)

Controlled variables: Survey questions and answers, the zodiac signs the answers corresponded to, people hosting the survey (Zunaira and Arielle), the location of where the survey was taking place (school), the grade from which students did the survey (grade 7)

Procedure

  1. The plan was to make a survey which included different situational questions (happy, sad, other kinds of situations; the “answers” were different ways the students could react. For each question, the student doing the survey would choose 1 answer of how they feel like they would react in that situation.)
  2. After all the questions had been thought out, the actual survey was made on Google Forms.
  3. Students from 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, and 7-4 were asked to sign up on the board if they wished to do the survey. 36 people were needed (3 of each zodiac.)
  4. Permission forms were handed out to all 36 students who signed up.
  5. The classes from which students had signed up were visited to collect the permission forms and make sure the students did the survey.
  6. Once every student had completed the survey, the data from completed surveys was analyzed to check if students had actually chosen the answer that corresponded to their sign.
  7. Once all the data had been collected from every survey, trifold planning began and a graph was made to display the data from the surveys. The trifold plan was sketched out before starting the work on the trifold.
  8. The information that would be displayed on the trifold was planned out and typed up across several classes.
  9. After all the information was printed and displayed upon the trifold, the decorating began. Pictures of the zodiac symbols and fairy lights were added to make the trifold look more appealing.
  10. When the trifold was completed, the presentation for Science Fair night was rehearsed.

Observations

Looking at the results of the survey, it's evident that more people got 0% of correct answers than any other percentage.

Analysis

Percentages of Accurate Answers from the Zodiac Survey: (25% is 1 accurate answer, 50% is 2 accurate answers, and so on)

0%: 2 water signs, 4 air signs, 4 earth signs, 3 fire signs

25%: 5 water signs, 2 air signs, 2 earth signs, 3 fire signs

50%: 3 water signs, 2 air signs, 3 earth signs, 2 fire signs

75%: 1 air sign

100%: none

Conclusion

After analyzing the results from the surveys, it turns out that a lot of people didn’t get a lot of accurate results/ didn’t choose the answers that corresponded to their sign. This means that Arielle’s hypothesis was correct and everyone will make decisions differently, regardless of their sign. So your zodiac sign may play a part in your decision-making, but not a huge part, as our experiment proved.

Application

Our decisions affect us on a daily basis. Studying how a person's zodiac sign can govern their decision making could better prepare them for upcoming situations/events. If, according to your sign, you are a very outspoken person, you would be reminded to watch what you say so you can avoid a bad result. For example, if someone has an intense argument, what they decide to say and the way they would react could potentially have a very big impact on their day/life.

Sources Of Error

People could have lied about their sign (one person did but we made sure to go back and fix everything to make sure the results were accurate), or they could have not answered the questions honestly, which would affect our results.
