where are the most germs in our school

we are going to test where the most germs are in our school
Johanna Lee Leighton Nguyen
Grade 5

Hypothesis

If we rub and wipe bread and q tips on places in the school then we will know how much germs are in the object because the bread will mold or the q tip palette will show how much germs

Research

Variables

Controlled:

We are going to use the same amount of water for the bread and each germ palette will be the same size. We will have the same size of bread and same amount of wipes. Each bag that we put the bread in will be the same size.

Manipulated:

We rubbed Q-tips on different spots and we rubbed bread on different spots like: toilet, textbook, floor, soap dispenser, trash can, sports ball, monkey bars, computer and door handle.

Responding:

Mold (aka bacteria) started to grow on the bread and the germ palettes started growing bacteria over time. The bread also absorbed all the moisture and throughout the months, mold and bacteria started to change and multiply.

Procedure

1.We wiped 9 pieces of bread on places in the school

2. We added moisture to the bread and let it rest in the sun.

3. We waited till mold started to grow.

4. We rubbed the Q-tips on 9 places in the school and rubbed the germ palettes with the Q-tips.

5. We heat treated the palettes to grow the mold.

Observations

Analysis

Mold moves over time in every place. The places that have the most germs caused mold to grow fast and much more. From the results, based on mold growth on the bread and germ palette, the place that has the most germs was..

The Trash Can!

Conclusion

Thank you for spending time learning about where the most germs in our school exist. Now that you know where they are, you can:

1. Carry hand sanitizer everywhere you go

 2. Hand sanitizer before and after activities!

  3. Wash your hands more often!
