Hypothesis

I think more children have obstructive sleep apnea then are aware of it

Research

Personal medical appointments at Canadian Sleep Consultants, pediatric sleep physicians.  When I spoke to my friends about this no one knew about it, even most of my teachers had not heard of sleep apnea in children.

Google search of statistics relating to diagnosis and treatment of childhood sleep apnea

Variables

not applicable as this was not a experimental design project

Procedure

I have personal experience with sleep apnea, so I wanted to share with other people what could be happening to them in their sleep.  That drive made me want to show other people that their feeling might be partly due to their poor sleep because of sleep apnea.  We then researched online to get exact statistics and costs of testing for sleep apnea and the costs of treatment.

Observations

I was very surprised that 85-90% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed

I was surprised that in Canadian children 1 in 4 are not getting enough sleep.

Analysis

We  tried to avoid getting information from suspect websites like Reddit.com.

We tried to find and include information from medical sleep clinic websites.

Conclusion

We were surprised to see that up to 90% of people with sleep apnea were undiagnosed.  If there is more awareness of this problem, then maybe more kids can get tested and get a proper diagnosis.  Then they can feel better if they are treated!

Application

Hopefully people who see this presentation will look at their own family to see if they know anyone who could be tested.

Sources Of Error

One source of error could be sleep sites might have different information from different viewpoints.  It is hard to know if the sites are legitimate.
