My question is will the color of light affect my memory. I want to know which color of light makes me focused and not forget. I want to know how it affects different people.

Hypothesis

If I put a person under bright light then I hink their memory will decrease because the light is very bright.

I think the warm light will increase the opponent’s memory because the color and exposure will make them calm and remembered

I think the neutral light will keep the opponent’s memory the same because the light is dull and it will be a little bit dark

I think the bright light will decrease the opponent’s memory because the light is really bright and I think it will be hard to see because of how bright the light is.

Research

Yellow light gives off more exposure. Yellow light is the most simulating of all light colors. White light exposure can disturb your sleep.Indoor lights should be dim for soft or warm white light bulbs. Warm LEDs are the best lights for studying. With warm LEDs you will experience low rates of headaches , eyestrain, and a better sleep.

Some studies have confirmed that retinal light ( a light sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) exposure activates hippocampus ( a part of your brain that’s responsible for memory and learning) which is closely joined with memory functions. Researchers said retinal light would influence memory. Chronotypes can also influence memory and concentration

Variables

Variables

Manipulated / Independent Variable

My manipulated / independent variables are the colors of the light bulbs.

Responding / Dependent Variable

My responding / dependent variable is the memory of the people in my experiment.

I will measure how long it takes for the people in my experiment to complete the memory test that I created.

Controlled Variables

  • No activity on the computer
  • Be under each light for 10 minutes

Procedure

1) Put the light bulb in the socket

2) Put person in the room

3) I will tell them the answer to a 3 question quiz(each light different quiz)

4) They will be in the room for 10 minutes and they will have 5 minutes to memorize the answers

5) At the last 5 minutes they will take the quiz

Note: I will have 3 different people be under each of the 3 lights because I want to find out how it will affect different people. Also for saftey reasons they will be under each light each day.

Observations:/Notes My Uncle says the light was not bright enough and he said his eyes hurt a bit  and he couldn’t see the paper clearly because the light was too bright. My mom said her eyes hurt a bit and the light was too bright  she also said the light was too yellow. My dad said everything was good but the light was a little too bright. Almost everyone got full marks. They said the test was easy because it had simple answers.

Test Te

  1. How much earths fit inside the sun?           Test questions 1

Answer: 1.3 million

  1. What is the weather today?

Answer: 2- celsius

  1. How much countries are there in the world?

Answer: 195

Experiment:  Trial 2

Person

How long it takes to do the test

How many were correct

Mom

Dad

Uncle

Soft Light   Observations/Notes: Dad: He said the light was excellent but he forgot the answers because the test had hard questions. He had a hard time doing the test because it had hard questions. Mom: She couldn’t see the test clearly because the light was too dull. She also said the test was very hard because it had hard questions. Uncle: It was a lot better than the other light because it didn’t hurt his eyes. He said the test was hard because it had hard questions. He couldn’t see the test clearly because it was too yellow. Nobody got all the questions right because the answers had hard names to spell.

Test Questions 2

  1. Which artist painted the Mona Lisa?

Answer: Leonardo Da Vinci

  1. The art of paper folding is known as_____

Answer: Origami

  1. Which painter is famous for cutting off part of his ear?

Answer: Vincent Van Gogh

Experiment:  Trial 3

Person

How long it takes to do the test

How many were correct

Mom

30 seconds

3/3

Dad

1 min

3/3

Uncle

30 seconds

Neutral Light

Observations/Notes: Dad: The neutral light irritated his eyes. There was too much light. He said the test was easy. Mom: She said the light was good because she could focus more. The test was easy because it had simple questions. Uncle: He said he could read the test clearly. It put less irritation on his eyes and he could focus goodly. The test was easy because there were simple and easy questions. All of them got full marks because they said the questions were simple and easy.

Test Questions 3

  1. What is Trump’s first and middle name?

Answer: Donald John

  1. How long does it take me to get home from school?

Answer: 7 minutes

  1. When did I go to school today?

Answer: 9:00 am

Analysis

I found out that the people did the best in neutral light and got all the answers correct when in neutral light. They said the test was the most easy in neutral light. They did the worse in soft light and got some or even no answers correct. They said the test was really hard because it had really hard names. They did good in bright light and got almost all the answers correct.  Some of the people in each trial liked the light or they didn’t like the light. This happen a lot in the trials. So I found out neutral light is the best light that keeps you focused and also for memory.

Conclusion

My question was: Will the color of light affect my memory?

The answer to my question is: Yes, the color of light does affect my memory. The best light for your memory is neutral light.

My hypothesis was incorrect because:  I thought soft light was going to be the best light for memory but it wasn’t! Soft light is actually the worst for your memory because everybody got some or even none of the answers correct.

Application

How this could be useful is: People will know what light is best for their memory or is not. Then they will know what light to buy next time. They can also warn others about their lights and how it impacts their memory. This results can be really helpful to people all over the world and also you! So the next time you are struggling on which light bulb to get you can always look at my results so you know. Which is…Neutral light! You can also warn others on how their lights can impact their memory.

Sources Of Error

I think I made some tests easy and some hard. I think I made the first test easy and everybody in my experiment said to make the test harder and that’s what I did, but they didn’t get the best scores and they said it was hard. I think for trial 3 I made the test really easy. If I were to do this experiment again but differently I would I would keep the test on the same level of easiness and hardness and for each test I would do different themes. Like the questions could be about knowledge or what tasks you do in your daily life.  I did do a theme for trial 2 it was art.
