Hypothesis
I believe that the greenhouse soil will increase the PH of the water more than any other type of soils because the humidity in the greenhouse is high and that affects the PH of the soil .
Independent variable: the soil.
Dependent variable: Tap water.
Research
Did you know that soils can be alkaline, neutral, or acidic? Most plants grow best in soil near neutral pH, but some plants prefer slightly acidic and others slightly alkaline soil. What is the pH of the soil in your garden? What happens to the pH of water that comes in contact with soil? In this science project you will get to find out.
Variables
Independent variable: the soil.
Dependent variable: Tap water.
Procedure
1.I will choose 3 different places to get samples of soil.
2.take notes in your log book.
.3.collect three samples from each place so you can repeat your experiment for three different lengths of time.remove the top 5 cm of soil then start collecting.
4.put the samples of soil you got in plastic cups and measure how many cm of soil you put
5.now we need to test how the ph of water changed after one hour grab 3 different samples each sample from a different area label the cups with the starting time.
6.put tap water in a separate cup and test the ph in it and recorded the value in your data table .
7.put tap water on the samples you got make the water go 1 cm at least more than the soil, cover the cups with Saran rap mix the water and soil very well and leave it for 1 hour.
8.open the cups after 1 hour and get 3 empty cups put a coffee filter on top of each cup and filter the water , test each water with the ph strip and record the results you got and the ph number you got from the tap water , the difference is the ph number for this number for this sample
9. repeat the same same step with another 3 samples for a whole day mark the cups with the starting time.
10.repeat these steps with another three samples for 2 days.
Observations
I observed that certen types of soil can affect and change the ph of water
Analysis
Based on my data and expiriment the soil colected from my green house mad the ph of the water go hier.
Conclusion
To start off before we get down into my conclusion the purpose of my experiment was to see if soil has an effect on pH of water. And yes some samples of soils did some didn't. Now let's get started. My hypothesis that I made was supported because in it I said that the soil from the greenhouse would be the highest pH level. Some errors I had to come across were finding the resources that I kneaded for my experiment such as the ph strips. There were things that could have been improved in my experiment that were not improved. Such as how long we left the water and soil together for a short amount of time. And we could've left it for a longer time. So by summarizing my findings I realized that soil does have an effect on ph of water. And this can be useful to the world for gardeners , farmers , and people who like to plant so they know that the ph of water will change when mixed with soil.I have concluded that the ph of water will change when mix with soil but each soil will have a different result some results will be high or some results will not change the ph and some results might decrease from there original results in the meanwhile those are the samples and results we got.
Application
i can use my resultes for the same expiriment and see if they woold change
Sources Of Error
