Hypothesis

Our hypothesis is that the Flowers will follow the light better than the other plants. we think this becuse the flowers grow faster than other plants. also becuse that flowers only grow strate up they can get to the light better.

Research

Positive Phototropism: This is when a plant grows toward the light. Most plants exhibit positive phototropism, especially their stems, leaves, and flowers. For example, if you place a potted plant near a window, its stem and leaves will bend toward the light to capture more energy for growth.

Negative Phototropism: This is when a plant grows away from the light. Some roots exhibit negative phototropism because they are seeking moisture and nutrients, often in darker, deeper soil layers.

Variables

manipulated variable useing 3 sets of plants

1.type of plant

2.how long it took for the plant to grow

3.Same amount of water and light

Procedure

We planted 3 pants

waterd them every day

mesured with straw with marks in it

coverd with constructon paper

Observations

We observed that the gourd sprouted on day 8. It had a very rapid growth rate until it slowed on day 15 at the height of 14cm. On the other hand the lupin took (unknown amount of time) to get out of the container. The gourd also needs structural help as we have added a kebab and a clip to support it. On the other hand the lupin doesn't need any structural help.

Analysis

the gourd plant has a long taproot sutch as the lupine. this can both enable better growth and absorbing more nutrients. both usually have fast growth but gord more than others.

Conclusion

In conclusion the gourd exited the bottle first due to these reasons: gourds have a very fast growth rate due to the strong roots they developed during the early stages of its life.

2 The lupin seeds have a tough outer coat making it harder for water to penetrate the seed. This could be why the seed sprouted later.

3 lupins require a deep root system to survive in any conditions. Establishing a deep root system takes time and energy. Even though the lupin sprouted, establishing the root system may have delayed the growth 4 where I put the lupin was by my window. This could have delayed the growth as most plants prefer warm conditions. Since the window isn't the best way to maintain heat this could have delayed its growth.

Application

this prodject could be used in the real world as a good science lesson of i could be used to bilud bridges. if we where to continue this project we could ask how long can a plant go without light? or how do plants grow?
