Method
I'll be trying 6 different ways to see how my sleep quality becomes. 1. With a bright light 2.With a dim light 3.With a dark light 4.With no light 5.Drinking coffee before I go to sleep 6.Watching on my phone before I go to sleep
Research
The pineal gland is a small, pea-sized gland located deep in the center of the brain. It is part of the endocrine system. The main job of the pineal gland is to produce a hormone called melatonin. Melatonin helps control the sleep–wake cycle, also known as the circadian rhythm. The pineal gland releases more melatonin at night when it is dark and less during the day when there is light. This helps the body know when it is time to sleep and wake up. The pineal gland also plays a role in mood, energy levels, and the timing of puberty.
Data
Conclusion
Based on my experiment. The educated guess was correct and no light won! It's because the brain when it's time to go to sleep the eye needs to see if its dark or not. If it is dark the eye will say to the pineal gland that it's time to go to sleep so the pineal gland can release melatonin. But if it sees light because of screens or a light in the room. The eye will say to the pineal gland it looks like it is still day time and the pineal gland will release a little less melatonin. But you might be wondering, “How do we take naps during the day if it's day time?” Well during the day the pineal gland still releases melatonin but not as much a when it's time to go to sleep.
