Problem

How do wetland ecosystems help us

Method

We started researching wetlands and how they help us. We discovered all of the important features that make it a unique ecosystem. We decided to focus more so on how wetlands act as a carbon sink and why this is important. We gathered our information from various sources so that we could compile as much information we could about our topic.

Research

We started researching wetlands to learn more about them and then we discovered that they have many unique features compared to other ecosystems. One being that it acts as a carbon sink to filter carbon dioxide from the air, so we continued to reseach that feature because we found it very fascinating. We used a variety of different resources, including various websites and books from our library.

Data

Wetlands help prevent flooding. They filter sediments and toxins. They supply food and habitats for many species of fish and mammals.

Conclusion

Wetlands are a unique ecosystem that help prevent greenhouse gases from building up in the Earth's atmosphere by acting as a carbon sink. Wetlands absorb carbon dioxide from the air because they are packed with lots of plants. These plants absorb carbon dioxide, die over time and then sink to the bottom of the wetland where the gases are then trapped.
